Stay in the Pain

As someone who is not black, it is possible for me to opt out of the grief of extrajudicial killings once I've hash tagged ‪#PhilandoCastile and‪#AltonSterling. Today I choose to continue to mourn.

As someone who is not a police officer, it is possible for me to distract myself from the pain after the initial horror of the shootings of police in ‪#Dallas and‪#BatonRouge. Today I choose to continue to lament.

I'm staying in the pain because that's where my black and blue brothers and sisters are, and it's where I believe God is. I see God most fully on display in Jesus, who willingly, even peaceably, sank into the deepest pain and grief this world had to offer. And if I have learned anything from his resurrection, I've learned that the way to new life is not around but rather right through the valley of the shadow of death.

Will you stay in the pain with me? Let's do it together and watch and see what new life God might bring.
